Bangkok Music Bar Fire Death Toll Climbs To 30, Over 70 Injured Still Hospitalised
Bangkok, July 14: The death toll from a devastating fire at a music bar in Bangkok has risen to 30, while more than 70 people remain hospitalised, including 24 in critical condition, officials said on Tuesday. The blaze broke out late Sunday at the Rong Beer Na Ladprao bar in northern Bangkok, becoming the city’s deadliest fire incident in 17 years. Firefighters took nearly 30 minutes to bring the flames under control. The bar, which described itself as a brewery or beer hall, had a reported capacity of around 600 people, though authorities are yet to confirm the exact number of customers present at the time of the fire. Police said many of those who died were found trapped inside windowless bathrooms, where they may have tried to seek refuge from the flames. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and examining whether the establishment complied with required safety regulations. Mourners, including former customers, gathered at the site on Tuesday to pay tributes to the victims, placing flowers and condolence messages in Thai and other languages, including Korean. Investigators continued examining the scene, with debris including damaged musical equipment and charred furniture scattered outside the premises as part of the ongoing probe.
