21 Suspected Bangladeshi Nationals Detained in J&K’s Ramban
JAMMU, Aug 3: Police have detained 21 suspected Bangladeshi nationals, including three women and seven children, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district during a routine checking operation, officials said on Monday.
The group, travelling in two vehicles from Jammu towards Kashmir, was intercepted at a checkpoint in Ramban on Sunday.
During verification, the individuals allegedly failed to produce valid identity or travel documents establishing their legal stay in India. They were subsequently taken into custody and shifted to a police facility for questioning.
According to officials, the detainees are suspected to have entered India illegally through Assam before travelling to Jammu by train. They were reportedly heading to the Kashmir Valley in search of work.
Police are also investigating whether any local or interstate network facilitated their movement.
Further inquiries are underway, and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, officials said.
