LOS ANGELES, Aug 17: Hollywood superhero film “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, has crossed the USD 2 billion mark at the global box office.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film was released on July 31, with Holland returning as Spider-Man and Zendaya reprising her role as Michelle Jones-Watson. Jacob Batalon plays Ned Leeds, while Krondon stars as Tombstone and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey.
According to entertainment outlet The Hollywood Reporter, the film has grossed approximately USD 2.022 billion worldwide.
The movie has also performed strongly in India, where it has crossed the Rs 500-crore mark, making it the highest-grossing Hollywood release in the country. It has surpassed films such as Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” and “Obsession”, which had crossed the Rs 100-crore mark.
The film follows Peter Parker as he confronts a new and powerful threat while dealing with an unexpected physical transformation brought on by the demands of his life as a crime-fighter.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is the 38th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is produced by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal.
The cast also includes Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Jon Bernthal as the Punisher and Michael Mando as Scorpion.
