Shehzad Poonawalla Again Seeks Acceptance of Resignation, Writes to BJP Chief Nitin Nabin

NEW DELHI, Aug 17: BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Monday reiterated his decision to resign from all party positions and primary membership, urging BJP president Nitin Nabin to formally accept his resignation.

Poonawalla said he had submitted his resignation letter to Nabin, which he also shared on X. He said he had first offered to resign unconditionally on July 30, citing pressing financial and personal circumstances.

In his latest communication, Poonawalla said he was grateful that the party had initially asked him to reconsider his decision, but after “long and hard contemplation” he had decided to stand by his resignation.

He said recent developments involving certain individuals, which he claimed he had already discussed with Nabin, had reinforced his decision to step down as the BJP’s national spokesperson and from active primary membership of the party.

Poonawalla also said he planned to move to the private sector due to urgent financial and personal circumstances. However, he stressed that he would continue to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP’s vision and work wherever possible.

“Like I said, I am only leaving the Vyavastha, not the Vyakti or Vichar,” Poonawalla said.

His move comes after he changed his X profile bio on July 31, removing references to the BJP and triggering speculation about his possible exit from the party. There was, however, no official confirmation from the BJP at the time.
