Rajya Sabha MPs’ Salaries, Allowances Cost Exchequer Rs 262 Crore In Two Years: RTI
Jaipur, Jul 19: More than Rs 262 crore was spent on the salaries, allowances and various facilities of sitting Rajya Sabha members during the financial years 2024-25 and 2025-26, according to information obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
The RTI reply, provided by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat in response to an application filed by Chander Shekhar Gaur, revealed that over Rs 151 crore was spent on MPs’ allowances and travel expenses alone during the two-year period.
The total expenditure rose significantly from over Rs 98 crore in 2024-25 to around Rs 163 crore in 2025-26, marking an increase of nearly Rs 65 crore.
In 2024-25, expenditure included over Rs 25.71 crore on salaries, Rs 33.33 crore on allowances, Rs 24.99 crore on travel and tour expenses, and Rs 8.2 crore on medical reimbursements.
During 2025-26, spending increased across major heads, with Rs 44.6 crore spent on salaries, Rs 58.78 crore on allowances, Rs 36 crore on travel expenses and Rs 9.6 crore on medical bills.
The expenditure also covered domestic and international travel, office expenses, printing and publication, digital equipment, fuel, professional services, repairs and maintenance, subsidies and other administrative costs, among other entitlement heads available to Rajya Sabha members.
