Prahlad Joshi Assumes Charge as Union Education Minister

NEW DELHI, July 26: Union Minister Prahlad Joshi on Sunday formally assumed charge as the Union Education Minister, a day after being entrusted with the additional responsibility following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. ExecutiveBranch Officials said Joshi took over the ministry after President Droupadi Murmu, on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, assigned him the additional charge of the Education Ministry. Joshi will continue to hold his existing portfolio as Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution while also overseeing the Education Ministry. His appointment comes at a crucial time as the Centre is working on reforms to strengthen the examination system and restore confidence following the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy, which led to Pradhan’s resignation on Saturday. The government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability and integrity in the country’s education and examination system.
