Opposition Uproar Forces Lok Sabha Adjournment Till 2 PM

New Delhi, Aug 3 : Relentless protests by opposition over NEET paper leak and alleged theft of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya forced adjournment of the Lok Sabha proceedings till 2 PM on Monday as repeated pleas by the Chair to allow the House to function smoothly were turned down by protesting members. As the House met again following an earlier adjournment, two bills were introduced amidst sloganeering by opposition members. For both the Bills — Indian Statistical Institute Bill, 2026, and the Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, 2026 — opposition members had given notices to oppose the draft laws at the introduction stage. But, since none of the opposition members spoke, the Bills were introduced by a voice vote. The Chair reminded the opposition members that names of those who had given notices to oppose the Bills were announced but nobody spoke. He also pointed out that holding placards and shouting slogans were against Parliamentary norms. The House was then adjourned till 2 PM. Earlier in the day, Speaker Om Birla had adjourned the House till 12 noon as Opposition members continued with their protests, which began from the first day of the Monsoon session on July 20. Since the session began, the Lok Sabha has not been able to complete its Question Hour with Birla lamenting that “pre-planned” disruptions were lowering the dignity of the House.
