JAMMU, Aug 21: Jammu Police has intensified its crackdown on the sale, storage and use of banned Chinese plastic manja (Gattu), with 70 rolls seized and a juvenile booked in Bahu Fort area.
Acting on specific information, a police team from Police Post Narwal intercepted a vehicle and apprehended a juvenile. During the subsequent investigation, 70 rolls of banned Chinese plastic manja were recovered from the vehicle and seized.
Police said the use, sale and storage of Chinese manja have been prohibited by the competent authorities due to the serious risks posed by the hazardous synthetic thread.
The sharp and non-biodegradable manja can cause severe injuries to pedestrians, two-wheeler riders and children, besides posing a threat to birds and other animals.
In connection with the recovery, FIR No. 259/2026 under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Police Station Bahu Fort and further investigation is underway.
Jammu Police said strict action would be taken against anyone found violating prohibitory orders related to Chinese manja.
Police also appealed to the public to cooperate with the authorities and report any information regarding the sale, storage, transportation or use of the banned manja to the nearest police station.
