CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJI NAGAR, Aug 22: A dispute over an iPhone ended in tragedy in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, with a family of three losing their lives after an 18-year-old allegedly threatened to jump from Kavtha hills.
The teenager had climbed the hill after his father, a driver and the family's sole breadwinner, refused his demand for an iPhone. Local authorities, villagers and family members tried to convince him to come down for nearly three hours. The village head even offered to buy him the phone.
Around 1 pm, when the teenager threatened to jump, his father attempted to rescue him. Both reportedly lost their balance and plunged nearly 300 feet from the hill.
The mother, who was also present at the spot, subsequently fell from the same location and died.
Fire brigade personnel launched rescue efforts, but all three members of the family died at the scene.
