COLOMBO, Aug 26: India enforced the follow-on after bowling Sri Lanka out for 290 on Wednesday, securing a commanding 213-run first-innings lead in the second Test.
Sri Lankan all-rounder Sonal Dinusha struck his second successive Test century, but his 103 could not prevent the hosts from being asked to bat again after India had declared their first innings at 503 for nine.
India lead the two-match series 1-0 after registering a 165-run victory in the opening Test at Galle.
Resuming the day at 265 for eight, Sri Lanka's innings lasted 89.4 overs, with Dinusha providing the main resistance before the hosts were bowled out.
The 25-year-old left-hander, who was unbeaten on 85 overnight, began aggressively against debutant off-spinner Saransh Jain, hitting a six and a four in the spinner's opening over to move into the nineties.
Dinusha completed his century in the following over, finding the boundary off pacer Prasidh Krishna. He was eventually dismissed for 103 off 162 balls, including eight fours and three sixes.
Saransh claimed his maiden Test wicket by dismissing Lahiru Kumara for 1 before removing Dinusha to finish with figures of 1 for 45.
Prasidh Krishna and Manav Suthar were India's most successful bowlers, taking three wickets apiece for 52 and 85 runs respectively.
Pasindu Sooriyabandara also made a valuable contribution with an 80-run knock, but Sri Lanka could not avoid the follow-on.
