NEW DELHI, Aug 9: India are among nine teams that have secured qualification for the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, which will feature 14 teams across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
Co-hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe have earned automatic qualification, while Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan have also secured their places in the tournament.
The 2027 edition will mark an expansion from the 10-team format used in the previous two ODI World Cups, with 14 nations set to compete for the title.
According to the qualification structure, the next eight highest-ranked teams in the ICC men’s ODI rankings as of March 2027 will qualify directly, excluding the two hosts. If South Africa are among the top eight ranked teams, the ninth-ranked side will also secure direct qualification.
The remaining four berths will be decided through the ODI World Cup Qualifier.
The qualification process will involve the Cricket World Cup Challenge League, the World Cup Qualifier Playoff and the main World Cup Qualifier. The Challenge League will feature 12 teams divided into two groups of six, with the top sides progressing through the qualification pathway.
The World Cup Qualifier will ultimately determine the final four teams to join the 10 directly qualified nations in the 14-team World Cup.
The 2027 ODI World Cup is set to be hosted jointly by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
