New Delhi, Aug 19: Delhi Police have detained a Pakistani national from Old Delhi for allegedly staying illegally in the national capital, police sources said.
According to the sources, the man entered India through Nepal and was working at a restaurant in Delhi. He was detained on August 15 during an investigation into his alleged illegal stay.
Police and central agencies questioned the man at length to verify his identity, background, activities and the circumstances surrounding his entry into India.
Sources said the man's mother was originally from Delhi but had married a Pakistani national and later acquired Pakistani citizenship.
Officials said no terror angle has emerged during the questioning so far. Following the inquiry, the man was handed over to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), where proceedings for his deportation to Pakistan have been initiated.
The agencies are also verifying details of his entry into India and examining whether he had the required documents and permissions to enter and remain in the country.
Further action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing verification and deportation proceedings.
