BRICS Must Address Economic Challenges Through Transparent Trade, Investment: Jaishankar

New Delhi, Sept 11: BRICS must work collectively to address economic challenges by promoting transparent trade and investment practices, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Friday.

Addressing the BRICS Business Forum, Jaishankar said the current geopolitical upheavals called for concerted efforts to tackle supply chain disruptions and strengthen global economic resilience.

He stressed the need for genuine market practices, reliable logistics, a predictable business environment, diversified commercial relationships and transparent trade and investment mechanisms.

"The common thread is how to make it easier for businesses in our countries to find more partners, access more markets, connect supply networks and convert complementarities into viable commercial partnerships," he said.

Jaishankar said that for BRICS, greater economic activity and economic security would translate into greater self-reliance.

"The objective is to strengthen our ability to absorb shocks while remaining connected and competitive," he said.

He also underlined the importance of energy systems capable of withstanding disruptions and transition pathways suited to the different national circumstances of member countries.

India is hosting the BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Saturday and Sunday.
