Kolkata, Sep 7: West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya on Monday said his party does not believe in treating Gen Z as a separate group and allows young people the freedom to express themselves.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP office here, Bhattacharya said the party did not believe in imposing its diktat on the younger generation or isolating them as a separate group.
"The BJP does not believe in imposing its diktat and allows Gen Z to speak in their own voice. They are not to be isolated as a group. They believe in nationalism, patriotism and reverence for Bharat Mata," he said.
His comments came against the backdrop of the BJP's efforts to consider Gen Z as an important constituency ahead of the civic polls.
Bhattacharya, a Rajya Sabha MP, also said people should have the freedom to decide what they want to eat and should not be subjected to restrictions based on cultural or religious considerations.
"If someone wants to relish and savour fish or mutton, say on Nabami, what is the harm?" he said.
His comments came after some Hindu outfit leaders called upon Bengali Hindus to avoid non-vegetarian food during Navratri.
"Dietary choices should remain a matter of individual preference and should not be dictated by others. Someone may eat fish, someone may eat mutton, while another may choose not to eat either. That is an individual's choice," Bhattacharya said.
