ABVP Demands High-Level Panel to Reform NEET-UG After Protest Violence

New Delhi, Jul 22 : The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Wednesday condemned the violence and clashes that took place during demonstrations at Jantar Mantar over NEET-UG and education reforms, alleging that “rogue political interests” and anti-social elements attempted to disrupt a genuine student movement. In a statement, the student organisation expressed sympathy for students and security personnel injured during the clashes and said legitimate student grievances should be addressed through dialogue, transparency and institutional reforms. The ABVP, affiliated to the RSS, said it had consistently raised concerns over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including NEET-UG, and claimed it was among the first organisations to demand a central agency probe into the issue. It also referred to its protests outside the National Testing Agency (NTA) headquarters seeking accountability and action against those responsible. The organisation urged the Union government to constitute a high-level committee to undertake a comprehensive review of the integrity and transparency of competitive examinations and recommend institutional reforms within a defined time-frame. According to the ABVP, the committee should propose measures to strengthen the credibility, transparency and accountability of the examination system. The organisation also alleged that attempts were being made to exploit students’ concerns for “narrow political interests” and claimed such efforts could strengthen “anti-India agendas” and create instability. The ABVP appealed to students, parents, teachers and other stakeholders to maintain a peaceful and democratic atmosphere while pursuing solutions to education-related issues. ABVP national general secretary Virendra Singh Solanki said the alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, including NEET-UG, had caused concern among students across the country and reiterated the organisation’s demand for a high-level committee to recommend reforms. “The resolution to students’ legitimate issues must be achieved through meaningful dialogue, sensitivity and institutional reforms,” Solanki said.
