Wanted To Kill 15,000": Mumbai Man Caught With Toxic Pills At Muharram Event
NEW DELHI, JUNE 28 : Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk on Sunday began a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, joining a protest led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which has been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in examinations.
Hundreds of protesters, including students, youth and several farmer leaders, gathered at the protest site as Wangchuk commenced his fast. The demonstration began with a two-minute silence.
Before launching the hunger strike, Wangchuk and CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke visited Raj Ghat to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.
The CJP has been protesting at Jantar Mantar since June 20, demanding accountability over alleged examination irregularities, including concerns related to the NEET medical entrance exam. Dipke has urged students, farmers and civil society groups to support the movement, alleging broader issues of transparency and trust in the education system.
Earlier in the day, Dipke claimed that several farmer leaders from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab had been placed under house arrest to prevent them from joining the protest. The demonstration has continued to draw participation from students, farmer representatives and members of civil society.
